For the release of the Ludovic V5.2, SCC presents a quick comparison of the main differences and improvements between the 4th and the 5th Ludovic Generation
Still intuitive, more efficient

The Ludovic software is dedicated to corotating twin screw extruders. The 5th generation of Ludovic is built to make data set up easy (extruders configurations, process parameters, material properties...) and knowledge about the process and the material behavior more efficient.

The 5th generation of Ludovic uses a new system of tabs to realise the data set up. It is then more easy and convenient to navigate through the different groups to define the extruder, the product, the process conditions...

Extruder Design

The library of screw elements allows the modelling of the major part of screw elements. In Ludovic V5, the different elements are sorted by types : conveying elements, kneading blocks, mixing elements; and left or right handed.

Each element (screw element, die element, barrel) can be customized.

Moreover, the 5th Generation offers the possibility to build extruders from a database.

The alarm settings option warns the user when the parameters he choses do not match to the real extruder configuration.

Screw Design

The screw profile is optimized in the 5th Ludovic Generation. A clic on a screw element opens the screw configuration window. Once defined, all screw elements are changeable along the screw profile.

The different colors match to a specific type of screw element for a fast identification.

Results Display and Analysis

Results selection and display is more readable on the Ludovic 5th Generation. Different tools make the analysis easier : scale, profile length, details of a value...

Moreover, results can be exported as Xls or Pdf file for an indeep analysis with statistical tools.

Results Comparison

The Results Comparison tools in the V5 offer more options and flexibility in the analysis. The customization of the tools (colors, kind of values...) by users allows a better readability and bring more comfort.

Besides, the projects and simulations management system of the new generation make the simulation and results comparison very easy and intuitive.

Sequencer

The sequencer is used to draw complete experience plans (root-sum square method) regarding to the configuration of a twin screw extruder.

The Sequencer configuration lays on the same principle in the two Ludovic Generations. The 5th holds a set up which have been modified to propose more options.

Optimizer

The optimizer is used to reach a (some) target(s) (a specific value, a min or max value...) fixed by the user. He can also fix constraints (regargind to its product and its configuration).

By a set of computations, Ludovic provides the best configuration to reach the goal while taking into account the given limits.

Example of goals :

Determining the best staggering angle of kneading blocks to reach a max value of Residence Time Distribution. The parameters on which Ludovic will play will be the staggering angles.

As a conclusion
The Ludovic 5th generation proposes a totally new working environment. Computation capabilities and accuracy are the same as in the Ludovic 4th generation.

This 5th generation focuses on the comfort of use with a new interface (organisation of data is based on craftsmen feedback) and new options to easily compare the set of simulations results. Moreover the educational aspects of numerical simulation are especially well underlined with Ludovic.
