To present the new developments of XimeX V2.2 and deal with Users Needs

The XimeX Users Club took place at the Ecole des Mines de Paris, on the 11th of March.

By gathering all the Users of the XimeX software, the target of this day was to get the feedback on the last version of XimeX (V2.2) and its improvements :

  • Free Surface for Continuous Mixer
  • New Resources to apply different thermal conditions in the simulation
  • New Tool Box to define and manage the resources, the STL files, the Particles definition...

It was also a way to analyse some industrial cases in which XimeX has been useful (extrusion and mixing issues, masterbatches and dispersive/distributive mixing problematics...).

Among the different presentations, the CEMEF presented which themas are currenlty under study and which could be shortly integrated in XimeX :

  • New meshing methods adapted to the modelling of high Re Materials
  • Modelling of the carbon/glass fibers breakdown
  • Analysis of the fibers dispersion in a Polymer matrix
Glass Fibers Breakdown :

Distribution of the glass fibers regarding to their length all along the process.

Glass fibers break down under the action of mechanical constraints applied by the process (shear rate, SME...). The size of fibers is so gradually reduced all along the process.

The XimeX software provides quite good qualitative trends about this phenomenon of fibers size evolution.

Such models to analyse the fibers behaviour could be the next steps in the XimeX development.

Beside, the next developments and the customer needs have benn discussed during this meeting to improve or bring functionalities into the XimeX framework. The main ideas concern the free surface, especially for extrusion processes and the bi-material mixing.
